The building’s program resulted in a building in excess of 70,000 gross square feet.
The building is sited on the northern periphery of the campus occupying the footprint of the former Tennis Center for Wake Forest University. In siting the building the Architect sought to maintain a low profile with minimal sight lines from the faculty condominiums and townhouses by locating the north façade into the embankment creating a hidden alley access to mechanical, electrical, loading dock and emergency transformer and retaining the pines as a buffer.
The main entry was aligned so as to function both as reception and control for the information systems area. The entrance canopy fans out to follow the curvature of the exterior brick paved porch that continues into the entry forming a brick circle. The canopy—with outriggers—continues westward as a covered colonnade with trellis to wrap the segmented dining drum and terrace.
