Yadkin Family YMCA and Fulton Family YMCA are new facilities that resulted from the YMCA of Greater Winston-Salem’s recent Capital Campaign. Each facility serves an area where previously there was no YMCA. The new facilities are comprised of a gymnasium, natatorium, youth center, racquetball courts, jogging track, childcare, aerobics, weight room, locker rooms, and offices. The buildings were designed for both function and form in relation to the site constraints with materials and finishes that would with stand the test of time.
While each YMCA has similar program components, each YMCA also has its own community identity and program specific to the area it serves. The new Fulton Family YMCA facility in the North Forsyth community houses a daycare program, which was added to the program to serve the adjacent office complex largely composed of a manufacturing plant and offices of Sara Lee. The Yadkin YMCA features an outdoor mini-water park with tumble-buckets, teacup, lemon drop and water spray features. Each facility offers a distinctive entry to provide individuality within the unified vision of the YMCA to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Within six months of opening these two new facilities the YMCA experienced membership enrollments which tripled the projections.
