Camp Hanes YMCA

Camp Hanes, part of the Greater Winston-Salem YMCA in King, North Carolina, wanted an outdoor water park/pool combination and a building that consisted of locker rooms, family changing room, offices, a learning center, a meeting room, a gymnasium, and storage areas.  The firm of Hines Aquatic Engineering designed the outdoor water park/pool.  The pool area consists of six 75’-0” lanes, access to the slide area which has two water slides, and ramped access to the two water features in the children’s area.  The children’s area then transitions to the deck with a zero level entry.

The building’s lower level has a gymnasium and meeting room and the upper level has a learning center and locker rooms. The locker rooms can be accessed from an enclosed vestibule that provides direct access to the pool area, the family changing room and aquatic office or from the upper level of the building.  The location of the aquatic office allows for supervision of the pool area and changing facilities.
